Regulation of the film industry

Regulation: Rules that control/govern how we behave and act. the BBFC regulates age certificates for media products such as films in the UK.

Uc: Suitable for pre-school children. (Children under 4).

U: Suitable for all audiences over four years of age. The film should have positive counterbalances to violence or threat.

PG: Parental guidance. Suitable for audiences over 8 years old. Unaccompanied children may watch but parents are advised to consider if the content is suitable for their child.

12/12A: Suitable for 12 year olds and above.  12 contains material generally unsuitable for children under 12 and nobody under 12 can see a 12A in the cinema unaccompanied by an adult.

15: Nobody under 15 can purchase/rent or see a 15 film in the cinema.

18: Suitable for adults. Nobody under 18 can purchase/rent or see a 18 film in the cinema.

R18: Can only be supplied in specifically licensed cinemas or shops. Usually contains explicit material not suitable for anybody under 18.

E: Scenes that are exempt form classification. E.g specifically violent content.
